Quality and Construction

We use only the best materials to build our dovecotes, with timber and suppliers being Forest Stewardship Council or PEFC accredited and the pride we take in their finishing is second to none. All joints are glued and either screwed or pinned, with all fixings being countersunk, filled and sanded prior to staining or painting.

Our largest dovecotes, the Woodthorpe 6 and Woodthorpe 3 are built around a centre column of 18mm marine ply into which a 10 x 10cm mounting pole slots. All other post mounted dovecotes in our range are supplied with a metal post mounting bracket to suit a 7.5 x 7.5cm post.

To allow easy cleaning of internal compartments all wall mounted dovecotes have removable front panels and all post mounted dovecotes have two removable sides. In all cases landing platforms are flush to internal floors..

Materials

Our dovecotes are built to a high specification for maximum longevity. Tops and bases are of 18mm Marine grade ply. Intermediate floors are of 9mm Marine grade ply with 6 mm ply compartment dividers. Sides and roofs are of 14mm interlocking, selected redwood.

Bodies are dressed in selected, 14mm premium grade redwood tongue and grooved boards.

Roofs are dressed in selected, 14mm premium grade redwood interlocking shiplap over tantalised roof battens, trimmed with pine stripping and topped with a wooden finial.

Finish

Prior to assembly, internal and external faces and cut ends of all timber components are treated with preservative. After assembly and careful preparation, dovecotes are finished with either long life stains or micro porous paints which are applied by hand in a minimum of three coats. These paints allow the timber to breath, preventing cracking and peeling thereby extending the time between maintenance to the maximum. Our dovecotes are available in a choice of finishes and colours. You can choose from all over golden oak stain, all over white painted finish or a combination of white painted body with either a black painted or golden oak stained roof. Other colours can be supplied so if you have a specific requirement please contact us for an amended price.
